Weddings At The Grande Colonial Offer Couples A Picture Perfect Experience

Engagement season has come to an end.  Now it's time to begin the planning of your big day!  Many of today's sophisticated couples are following the popular trend of taking their dreams for a picture perfect wedding to picturesque, out-of-town locations to say, "I do," or even renew their vows.  The Grande Colonial hotel La Jolla, located just above the beautiful Pacific waters on the Southern California coastline, is the ideal wedding venue.  With intimate weddings in mind, the Grande Colonial's facilities are ideal for wedding events for up to 70 guests and ceremonies for up to 120 guests.

With the property's tranquil color palette and European-style furnishings, this historic, 97-room hotel just 13 miles north of downtown San Diego is increasing in popularity with couples looking for that ultimately unique, special setting that many traditional wedding locations cannot offer.  "We offer couples an unmatched wedding destination," says Kim Avant, general manager.  "With the collective efforts of our creative, personalized wedding planner, our warm attentive service staff, and exquisite catering from award-winning, MICHELIN-recognized NINE~TEN Restaurant, our brides are confident that every detail of their most special day will be handled perfectly so the couple can relax and really enjoy themselves."

San Diego is known for its near-perfect climate giving many couples the chance to exchange vows outdoors in the Garden Courtyard, on the Grande Terrace or alongside the pool.  The 2,000-square-foot Garden Courtyard is located between the 8-suite Little Hotel by the Sea and 10-suite Garden Terrace wings and is adorned with rose gardens, terra-cotta pavers, colorful fountain and a built-in pergola serving as an altar for weddings.  With its ocean-view and natural beauty, the Garden Courtyard provides the idyllic venue for outdoor wedding ceremonies and cocktail receptions.  Both the Little Hotel by the Sea and Garden Terrace wings can also be bought out for private wedding events.  The outdoor Terrace, overlooking the garden pool with views to the ocean, also offers an idyllic outside location for an afternoon luncheon, a wedding ceremony or a sunset reception.

Three newly renovated indoor facilities are also available for special wedding events.  The Sun Room offers a fresh, inviting atmosphere for receptions with room for up to 70 guests to enjoy sit-down dining.  The beautiful, elegant La Jolla Room has private street entrance and a baby grand piano and is the perfect place for a reception as well.  Both private event rooms offer inviting atmospheres for rehearsal dinners, pre or post wedding brunches, and bridal showers.  The Grande Colonial offers complete wedding packages, which include a complimentary wedding night room for the couple.  Room blocks of 10 or more for family and friends are available and come with ocean views from many of the rooms.

Grande Colonial Hotel La Jolla Offers Ocean-View San Diego Event Space and San Diego Meeting Space

Much praised by vacationing guests, the Grande Colonial Hotel La Jolla's picturesque ocean-view setting and get-away-from-it-all ambiance also make the hotel an attractive location for small meetings, workshops, conferences, banquets, and other special events.

Just 15 miles north of San Diego and 110 miles south of Los Angeles, the Grande Colonial offers a variety of indoor and outdoor San Diego meeting and event venue spaces -- some with views of the Pacific Ocean-- a full-service catering team, and on-site audio-visual support.

The meeting rooms, which were completely renovated in 2023, range in size from 169 square feet to 2,000 square feet.  The largest indoor meeting room -- the Sun Room -- accommodates up to 80 for theater-style seating and up to 60 for a reception or banquet-style seating.  The 825-square-foot La Jolla Room accommodates up to 50 for receptions, and 40 banquet-style. The 325-square-foot Parlor Room accommodates up to 20 in a reception or banquet arrangement. Outdoors, the 2,000 square foot Garden Courtyard can be set for up to 100, while the Grande Terrace for up to 60, and the Loft rooftop deck for up to 24.

A full-service catering staff, under the culinary direction of Executive Chef Jason Knibb of the MICHELIN-recognized NINE-TEN Restaurant, is available to help organize and oversee breakfasts, breaks, luncheons, dinners, and other special functions such as receptions and parties.  The menu selections include buffets or separate entrees for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with poultry, seafood, beef, and specials of the day; snacks and refreshments; and desserts and beverages.  A cash bar or hosted bar also is available.

For receptions, the menu selections include hot and cold hors d'oeuvres; salads, pasta, and taco bars; fresh vegetable and fruit trays; deli platters; cheeseboards and dips; and carving stations. The hotel also can arrange themed menus, such as Italian, Mexican, Asian , and Jamaican.

The Grande Colonial's ocean-view setting is a major selling point for meeting planners, according to Leo Lopez, director of sales. "Being just two blocks from the ocean, most of our recently renovated facilities feature spectacular views, which is not something you find in most hotels.  After a long day of meetings, there's no better way to relax than to take a stroll along the waterfront and listen to the hypnotic lullaby of the surf."

The Grande Colonial Hotel La Jolla Unveils New Meetings, Weddings And Special Event Space

At the heart of La Jolla's social scene since 1913, the landmark Grande Colonial enters a new era of grandeur as it unveils its newly renovated meeting and special event spaces -- all adding up to resounding success for executive meetings, corporate events, holiday parties, weddings, and social occasions of every description.

"We went to great lengths to enhance the feel of the hotels' still intact turn-of-the-century architecture designed by noted area architect Richard Requa back in 1913," said Kim Avant, general manager of the Grande Colonial.  "Artfully recapturing the hotel's storied past with a keen focus on modern sensibilities, the new design infuses a classic European ambiance and a refined, contemporary sophistication."

All three of the hotel's interior meeting rooms located off the main lobby, received new flooring, wall coverings, custom built-in cabinets with buffet station, new window coverings, and new audio-visual systems. One of the rooms, the Parlor Room, also received new folding doors opening up to the outdoor, ocean-view Grande Terrace. Interior design for the project was provided by Warren Sheets Design, Inc., a San Francisco-based architectural and interior design firm.

Known as La Jolla's oldest original hotel, the Grande Colonial has been a landmark in the community since 1913. The hotel offers 97 European-style guest rooms and suites (22 of which are extended-stay suites with full kitchens and fireplaces).  Over 5,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor ocean-view meeting space is also available for up to 100 guests.  Food & beverage is provided by the on-site, MICHELIN Distinction NINE-TEN Restaurant.
